PM lays foundation stone of Indian Agricultural Research Institute (IARI) Hazaribagh, Jharkhand

Prime Minister Narendra Modi today laid the foundation stone of Indian Agricultural Research Institute (IARI) at Hazaribagh in Jharkhand. Later, in the presence of PM Modi, an MoU to set up a new steel plant will be signed among Ministry of Steel, National Mineral Development Corporation and State Mineral Development Corporation of Government of Jharkhand. A Special Purpose Vehicle will be set up under this agreement. After this agreement, Jharkhand will be a pioneer in steel production of about 300 million tonnes by 2025. In the presence of PM Modi, an MoU to set up a new steel plant was also signed among Ministry of Steel, (Government of India), National mineral development corporation and State Mineral Development Corporation of Government of Jharkhand. World Sanskrit Conference begins in Bangkok

World Sanskrit Conference began at Bangkok on Sunday with External Affairs Minister Sushma Swaraj as the guest of honour at the inaugural session. The 16th World Sanskrit Conference has begun at Bangkok in Thailand. Over 600 scholars from 60 countries are participating in the conference. External Affairs Minister Sushma Swaraj is the guest of honour during the inaugural ceremony of the conference.
Addressing the conference, the External Affairs Minister said that Knowledge in Sanskrit will go a long way in finding solutions to contemporary problems of the world. She delivered her speech in Sanskrit. The Union minister said that Indian Council for Cultural Relations (ICCR) has decided to grant International Sanskrit Award, a certificate & 20,000 US Dollars to scholar who has made significant contribution to Sanskrit. She has also announced that Ministry of External affairs has created a post of Joint Secretary for Sanskrit in the ministry.

IARI Jharkhand

Indian Agriculture Research Institute (IARI), Jharkhand will soon have thousand acre campus to give fillip to agriculture in the region. Foundation stone of the campus of Institute will be laid by the Prime Minister, Shri Narendra Modi on 28th June, 2015 at Goriya Karma village in Barhi, Hazaribagh, Jharkhand. Union Agriculture Minister, Shri Radha Mohan Singh will also grace the occasion. IARI-Jharkhand would achieve inclusive agricultural growth through Integrated Farming Systems (IFS) in the region. It will achieved through multi-disciplinary research centered around 3 major schools viz. School of Natural Resource Management, School of Crop Improvement & Protection, and School of Horticulture and Forestry with integrated Animal Sciences, Basic Sciences and Social Sciences components for catering to the local farming system needs of the region. The institute will attract the cream of post graduate and doctoral students from all over India and abroad to conduct region specific research. The major regional challenges will be addressed by the IARI, Jharkhand, through prioritized thrust areas of research, integrated with post-graduate education and extension programs, thereby leading to:
• Improved soil health, water use efficiency (WUE) and management of both surface and ground water resources in the high rainfall (1200-1600 mm) regions through multidisciplinary research.
• Research on crop diversification to double the production in rice-fallow seasons
• Improvement of nutritional security and profitability of the farm families in the tribal belts thorough appropriate horticultural technologies
• Development of region-specific integrated farming systems
• Focus on fast adoption of technologies through location-specific need-based extension strategies and mechanisms.
• Higher agricultural education for human resource development beginning with 10 post graduate students from 2015-16 in Soil Science, Water Science &Technology, Agronomy, Horticulture and Genetics disciplines.
• Collaboration within NAREES and international organizations for making effective use of cutting edge technologies to boost regional capacities and economy of the farmers
• Ensuring an overall social impact in terms of employment generation through best skilled scientific, technical, administrative and supporting manpower
• Fuel and promote technology-driven growth of agro-industries through first generation entrepreneurs of the region to provide a fillip for the Make in India initiative of the Government. This would also develop ancillary industries for rural employment and economic empowerment

Integrated Power Development Scheme (IPDS)

Prime Minister Shri Narendra Modi will be launching Integrated Power Development Scheme (IPDS) on Sunday, 28th June 2015 at Varanasi. The IPDS is one of the flagship programmes of the Ministry of Power and will be at the core attempt to ensure 24x7 power for all. The Scheme, announced in the Union Budget 2014-15, aims at strengthening of sub-transmission network, Metering, IT application, Customer Care Services, provisioning of solar panels and the completion of the ongoing works of Restructured Accelerated Power Development and completion of the Reforms Programme (RAPDRP).
Government of India will provide budgetary support of Rs. 45,800 crore over the entire implementation period of IPDS. Out of the total amount Rs 1,067 crore has been sanctioned for Uttar Pradesh including Rs 572 crore for Varanasi. The Project envisages converting area overhead lines into underground cabling in the areas around the temples and ghats in the Varanasi city. The Scheme includes upgradation of the electrical assets at Sub – centers, lines and distribution transformers, capacity enhancement and renewal of the old sub – stations and installation of roof-top solar panel in government buildings. IPDS will help in reduction in AT&C losses; establishment of IT enabled energy accounting / auditing system, improvement in billed energy based on metered consumption and improvement in collection efficiency.

In exercise of the powers conferred by article 223 of the Constitution of India, the President is pleased to appoint Shri Justice Subhro Kamal Mukherjee, senior-most Judge of the Karnataka High Court, to perform the duties of the office of the Chief Justice of that High Court with effect from the date Shri Justice Dhirendra Hiralal Waghela relinquishes charge of the office of the Chief Justice of Karnataka High Court consequent upon his transfer as the Chief Justice of the Orissa High Court vide Notification No.K-11017/06/2015-US.II dated 11th April, 2015.

6 New IIM at Vishakhapatnam (Andhra Pradesh), Bodh Gaya (Bihar), Sirmaur (Himachal Pradesh), Nagpur (Maharashtra), Sambalpur (Odisha) and Amritsar (Punjab)

Union Cabinet chaired by the Prime Minister, Shri Narendra Modi, today gave its approval for setting up of six new Indian Institutes of Management (IIMs) in the country. These new IIMs will be located at Vishakhapatnam (Andhra Pradesh), Bodh Gaya (Bihar), Sirmaur (Himachal Pradesh), Nagpur (Maharashtra), Sambalpur (Odisha) and Amritsar (Punjab). These IIMs will begin functioning from assigned temporary campuses and shift to their permanent sites after construction of their campuses. It is intended that these six new IIMs will commence their first academic session from 2015-16. Each Institute will start with an intake of 140 students in the Post Graduate Programme (PGP) courses. It is expected that the annual intake will increase to reach a level of 560 students each year by the end of seven years.
The PGP in Management would be the flagship programme of these institutions. Admission to the PGP will be through the open and competitive Common Admission Test (CAT) being conducted by the IIMs. The Institutes would train young graduates to undertake management responsibilities and carry out research and consultancy in the field of management and allied areas. Their programmes will provide the country, potential leaders in diverse fields of endeavour and enterprise.
