Justice Tahira Safdar has been sworn-in as the first woman Chief Justice of Balochistan High Court at a ceremony held at the Governor House in Balochistan. She will remain in this post until 4 October 2019. With this, she became the first female chief justice of any court in the history of Pakistan. Earlier, Safdar created history in 1982 when she became the first female civil judge in Balochistan. Currently, Justice Tahira is a member of the 3-judge special court conducting the trial of former president Pervez Musharraf for committing treason by proclaiming a state of emergency on 3rd November 2007.

Explanation: The Indian economy grew at a 15-quarter high of 8.2% in the April-June quarter of current fiscal (2018-19), as was disclosed in the data released by the Central Statistics Office (CSO) on 31 August 2018. The growth thus cemented India’s position as the fastest growing major economy, clocking higher expansion rate than China’s 6.7 in the same quarter. Manufacturing grew in double digits at 13.5% in the June quarter from a contraction of 1.8% in the same quarter a year ago, while construction made strong recovery to grow at 8.7% against 1.8% during same period last year. Agriculture also grew at a robust 5.3% in the June quarter against 3% during the same quarter a year ago. The previous high quarterly GDP growth was recorded in July-September period in 2014-15 at 8.4%. Economic growth had dipped to 5.6% in the April to June 2017 quarter as companies reduced stocks ahead of the rollout of the goods and services tax (GST) in July last year.
