INS Kalvari submarine commissioned into Navy

Prime Minister Narendra Modi on 14th December commissioned scorpene-class submarine INS Kalvari at the Naval dock yard in Mumbai.  Defence Minister Nirmala Sitharaman, Navy chief Admiral Sunil Lanba, Maharashtra CM Devendra Fadnavis and top defence officials were present at the commissioning ceremony.  It comes days after the Navy observed the golden jubilee of its submarine wing. The Mazagon Dock Shipbuilders delivered Kalvari on September 21to the Navy after successfully completing all trials. Scorpene submarines can undertake varied missions such as anti-surface and antisubmarine warfare, intelligence gathering and mine laying.
Prime Minister hailed 21st century as Asia's century. PM said the Government accords highest importance to the Indian Ocean region, guided by the principle of Sagar - Security And Growth for All in the Region. In a tweet Prime Minister said that Commissioning of INS Kalvari is an occasion of great pride and  It illustrates the success of 'Make in India' and adds strength to our defence capabilities.
