Asia's biggest telescope

Prime Minister Narendra Modi and his Belgian counterpart Charles Michel launched Asia's biggest telescope, the Aryabhatta Research Institute of Observational Sciences or ARIES built with Belgian assistance at Nainital remotely from Brussels.
Referring to the cooperation between the two countries on various projects, the PM said even sky is not the limit. He also congratulated the scientists of both the countries for the successful inauguration of the telescope.

Sugamya Bharat Abhiyan, Inclusiveness and Accessibility Index

Government launches ‘Inclusiveness and Accessibility Index’ to mark the next chapter of its flagship Campaign, the ‘Sugamya Bharat Abhiyan’. The Index, prepared in collaboration with The Federation of Indian Chambers of Commerce and Industry (FICCI) was launched by Shri M Venkaiah Naidu, Hon’ble Minister of Urban Development, Housing and Urban Poverty Alleviation and Parliamentary Affairs at a function held on 30th March 2016.. Minister of State for Social Justice and Empowerment Shri Krishan Pal Gurjar also graced the occasion. The ‘Inclusiveness and Accessibility Index’ helps the industries and corporates to participate in the Accessible India Campaign (AIC) by voluntarily evaluating their readiness for making the workplace accessible for Persons with Disabilities. The Prime Minister made a call to the Corporate Sector to come forward and support the Campaign during his speech on the occasion of the launch of AIC on 3rd December 2015, which also marked the International Day of Persons with Disabilities.
The absorption and recognition of the Index by the Corporate Sector and public sector organisations will benefit them immensely by
(a) Being the benchmark
(b) Take Progressive steps to increase support
(c) Fully utilise diverse talent pool
(d) Reduce employee turnover, increase employee loyalty and increase morale and productivity of other employees in the organisation.
(e) Create a positive brand image.

(h) Above all, the Inclusiveness and Accessibility Index shall promote human dignity and social cohesion where all citizens have equal access to opportunities to fully realise their potential.

Virat Kohli becomes No 1 batsman in ICC T20 Rankings

Indian batsman Virat Kohli on 28th March became the top-ranked batsman in the ICC rankings, while India remained static at the No.1 spot in the team list. Kohli, who averages 92 after scoring 184 runs in four matches at a strike-rate of over 132, had entered the tournament 24 points behind Aaron Finch, but has now opened up a 68-point advantage over the Australian, the ICC said in a statement. In the bowlers’ table, West Indies’ Samuel Badree has displaced Indian off-spinner Ravichandran Ashwin to return to the number-one position. 
Meanwhile, there has been a reshuffling of the pack in the MRF Tyres ICC T20I Player Rankings as leading performers have been rewarded for their good performances. England’s Joe Root has rocketed 38 places to career-high 11th after scoring 168 runs in four matches at a strike-rate of 150. The Yorkshireman has gained 105 points in the tournament to date as he now has Zimbabwe’s eighth-ranked Hamilton Masakadza firmly within his sights. Martin Guptill is New Zealand’s highest-ranked batsman after the opener has moved up two places to third following his contribution of 125 runs in three matches at a strike-rate
of over 162.

Gram Uday to Bharat Uday Abhiyan from 14th to 24th April, 2016

Gram Uday to Bharat Uday Abhiyan: Starting with Dr. Bhimrao Ambedkar’s 125th Birth Anniversary on 14th April 2016 and culminating in Panchayati Raj Day on 24th April 2016, in the period between 14th April to 24th April 2016, the Central Government, in collaboration with States and Panchayats, will organize a ‘Gram Uday Se Bharat Uday Abhiyan’ (Village Self Governance Campaign). The campaign aims to generate nation-wide efforts to increase social harmony across villages, strengthen Panchayati Raj, promote rural development, and foster farmers’ progress. Hon’ble Prime Minister will inaugurate the Gram Uday se Bharat Uday Campaign of 14th April 2016 at MHOW in Madhya Pradesh. On 24th April 2016 i.e. National Panchayati Raj Day, Hon’ble Prime Minister will address all the Gram Sabhas of the country from Jamshedpur, which will be beamed to all the villages in the country, where villagers will gather together to listen to the Prime Minister’s address.  In the preceding days, between 14th April to 16th April, 2016 a ‘Social Harmony Programme’ will be conducted in all Gram Panchayats, supported collaboratively by the Ministry of Panchayati Raj and the Ministry of Social Justice and Empowerment. In this programme, villagers will honour Dr. Ambedkar, and resolve to strengthen social harmony. Information regarding the various schemes of the government to foster social justice will be provided. 
Gram Sabha meetings will be held from 21-24th April, 2016 across the country. On this day, there will be a Prabhat Pheri (or morning walk) in the village, a programme on sanitation, a cultural programme as well as a sports programme. The topics of discussions in these Gram Sabhas will include :- 

  • Gram Panchayat Development Plans for local economic development, 
  • Optimum utilization of funds available with Panchayati Raj Institutions, 
  • Clean drinking water and sanitation, 
  • Role of women in village and rural development. 
  • Social inclusion including welfare of Scheduled Castes, Scheduled Tribes, person with Disabilities and other marginalized groups.

President's rule imposed in Uttarakhand

President's rule has been imposed in Uttarakhand and state Assembly has been kept in suspended animation.  The recommendation for central rule was made by the Union Cabinet at its emergency meeting last night, chaired by PM Narendra Modi.  Earlier, Harish Rawat led Uttarakhand government has been asked to prove its majority by March 28, after nine rebel MLAs of the Congress sided with the Opposition BJP to destabilise the government. 
Assembly speaker Govind Singh Kunjwal,has also disqualified nine rebel Congress MLA's from the House.Expressing satisfaction, Uttrakhand BJP in charge, Shyam Jaju said that the state has been witnessing misrule, corruption, murder of democracy.  He added that in order to prevent all these, party made a plea to governor to impose president's rule. BJP Leader Kailash Vijayvargiya has welcomed the decision of president's rule being imposed in Uttarakhand asserting that it decision has been taken to save democracy.
