Seshadri won the Pulitzer, considered the most prestigious awards in journalism, for his work '3 Sections' which is a "compelling collection of poems that examine human consciousness, from birth to dementia, in a voice that is by turns witty and grave, compassionate and remorseless."
The 98th annual Pulitzer Prizes in Journalism, Letters, Drama and Music, awarded on the recommendation of the Pulitzer Prize Board, were announced yesterday by Columbia University. A Columbia University alum, Seshadri, 60, would receive a USD 10,000 prize. Born in Bangalore in 1954, Seshadri came to America at the age of five and grew up in Columbus, Ohio. The Accidental Prime Minister Book by Sanjay Baru

The Accidental Prime Minister
Sub title: The Making and Unmaking of Manmohan Singh
Author: Sanjaya Baru
Book Overview: In 2004 Sanjaya Baru left a successful career as chief editor of the Financial Express to join Prime Minister Manmohan Singh as his media adviser in UPA 1. Singh offered him the job with the words, ‘Sitting here, I know I will be isolated from the outside world. I want you to be my eyes and ears. Tell me what you think I should know, without fear or favour.’
The Accidental Prime Minister is Baru’s account of what it was like to ‘manage’ public opinion for Singh while giving us a riveting look at Indian politics as it happened behind the scenes. As Singh’s spin doctor and trusted aide for four years, Baru observed up close Singh’s often troubled relations with his ministers, his cautious equation with Sonia Gandhi and how he handled the big crises from managing the Left to pushing through the nuclear deal. In this book he tells all and draws for the first time a revelatory picture of what it was like for Singh to work in a government that had two centres of power. Insightful, acute and packed with political gossip, The Accidental Prime Minister is one of the great insider accounts of Indian political life and a superb portrait of the Manmohan Singh era.

Crusader or Conspirator Book by PC Parekh

Crusader or Conspirator? Coalgate and Other Truths Book
Price: Rs.595.00
Writer: PC Parakh, IAS (Retd) Former Seceretary, Ministry of Coal
Publisher: HB Manas Publications
Book Overview: In 2012, a controversy over allocation of coal blocks to private companies rocked the country. The government’s finance watchdog─the Comptroller and Auditor General (CAG)─found the government had picked favourites and avoided open and competitive bidding which would have generated far more revenue for a cash-starved state. The CAG concluded that India had lost ` 1.86 lakh crore (over $ 30 billion) in the process, all of which went to the private companies. It was the biggest recorded scam in the history of India. The Central Bureau of Investigation (CBI), India’s premier investigation agency, then filed an FIR against the top officer in the coal ministry─Secretary PC Parakh and industrialist Kumar Mangalam Birla. Parakh had by then earned a fine reputation for ability and integrity in over three decades as a civil servant. His stint as the top bureaucrat in the coal ministry was his last posting in a sterling career. The FIR outraged the civil services and corporate India and was widely condemned by the intelligentsia of the country.
The book isn’t just about the coal scam. It is also about working with some of the biggest Indian politicians, starting with chief ministers of Andhra Pradesh. It is about life in the coal ministry with Mamata Banerjee, Shibu Soren and Dr. Manmohan Singh, who was also the Prime Minister. It is about the lessons learnt before Parakh met any of these dignitaries. It is an account that startles with never-before revealed information.
