Land Acquisition Amendment Bill 2015 introduced in Lok Sabha

Land acquisition amendment bill 2015, which seeks approval of Parliament for changes brought in the law through an ordinance, was introduced in Lok Sabha on Tuesday. However, the centre may face opposition on land acquisition in the Rajya Sabha where the Congress has given a notice for suspension of the Question Hour on Tuesday to discuss the ordinance. Leader of the Rajya Sabha Arun Jaitley said the government is open for suggestions from opposition on Ordinance amending the Land Acquisition bill. Finance Minister Arun Jaitley also said that the Government has proposed a pro-farmer amendments to the land acquisition Bill. He said that the current Government is making such amendments that will ensure that the farmer's interests and developmental issues of rural areas are not undermined.
Congress Deputy Leader in the Rajya Sabha Anand Sharma questioned government's intention of bringing Ordinance for amending land acquisition act without holding consultations with states. Speaking in Rajya Sabha, Sharma termed the Ordinances as anti-people. Samajwadi Party leader Ram Gopal Yadav condemned the land ordinance saying the of the social impact it would have on the farmers. He was speaking in the Rajya changes made in the law were made without consideration Sabha. Speaking in the Rajya Sabha, BSP Supremo Mayawati hit out at the government over new ordinance, saying the Land Acquisition Bill is against the farmers' interest.
