Venkaiah Naidu declared NDA's vice-presidential candidate

Senior BJP leader and Union Minister M Venkaiah Naidu will be the NDA candidate for the post of Vice President. The announcement was made by BJP President Amit Shah in New Delhi on 17th July 2017 after the Party Parliamentary Board meeting. He said, the decision was taken unanimously by the board. Mr Shah said, the name of Mr Naidu was earlier discussed with the NDA allies and is supported by them. Prime Minister Narendra Modi, Party President Amit Shah, Union Ministers Arun Jaitley, Nitin Gadkari, Sushma Swaraj, Venkaiah Naidu, J P Nadda, Thawar Chand Gehlot and Ananth Kumar were present in the meeting.
Prime Minister Narendra Modi said, M Venkaiak Naidu is a fit candidate for the office of Vice President. After the announcement of the candidature of Mr Naidu, the Prime Minister in a series of tweet said, he knows Mr Naidu for years and has always admired his hard work and tenacity. He said, Mr Naidu, a farmer’s son, brings years of experience in public life and is admired across the political spectrum. Mr Modi said, the years of Parliamentary experience Mr Naidu has, will help him discharge the important role of Rajya Sabha Chairperson. Mr Naidu has been the National President of the Party from 2002 to 2004. He was elected to Rajya Sabha from Karnataka in 1998 and was re-elected to the house in 2004, 2010and 2016. Indonesia renames part of South China Sea as "North Natuna Sea"

Indonesia has renamed part of the South China Sea as it will now refer to the northern areas of its exclusive economic zone in the sea as the "North Natuna Sea. The part of the renamed area falls in China’s “nine-dash line” waters extending hundreds of miles to the south and east of China’s island province Hainan.  China claims the entirety of the sea, but Vietnam, Taiwan, the Philippines, Brunei and Malaysia all have competing territorial claims to parts that are near their respective shores. In recent years, China has invested heavily in building and militarizing artificial islands in the South China Sea.
Indonesia insists it is a non-claimant state in the South China Sea dispute but has clashed with China over fishing rights around the Natuna Islands, detaining Chinese fishermen and expanding its military presence in the area over the past 18 months. Unveiling the new official map, the Deputy of Maritime Sovereignty at the Ministry of Maritime Affairs, Arif Havas Oegroseno, noted the northern side of its exclusive economic zone was the site of oil and gas activity. "We want to update the naming of the sea, we gave a new name in line with the usual practice: the North Natuna Sea," he told reporters. In Beijing, Chinese Foreign Ministry spokesman Geng Shuang said he did not know anything about the details of the issue, but said the name South China Sea had broad international recognition and clear geographic limits.

Lilly Singh appointed UNICEF’s Global Goodwill Ambassador

UNICEF on 15th July appointed Indian-origin Canadian YouTube star Lilly Singh as its newest Global Goodwill Ambassador at a special event here. Lilly was in the capital to support UNICEF’s Youth4Change initiative, a programme for youth that brings them together to support their peers and communities in taking action on issues such as health, hygiene, child labour and gender equality.
“I’m honoured to join UNICEF as a Goodwill Ambassador and to use my voice to support its mission of reaching every child. It’s time to stand for what your kids want and not society,” Lilly said. The YouTuber, famous as ‘Superwoman’, said she would come up with few videos in Hindi and would try to put Hindi subtitles in her English videos to increase the reach of her vlogs and channel. As the UNICEF ambassador Lilly, who has 11.9 around million subscribers on the video sharing website, will use her channel to showcase the organisation’s work and urge millions of her followers to work for children’s rights.

It was 23-year-old Muguruza's first Wimbledon title and second Grand Slam title -- the first was in French Open 2016.
