Venkaiah Naidu launches Swachh Survekshan, 2017

Urban Development Minister M Venkaiah Naidu today launched Swachh Survekshan or Sanitation Survey 2017 of 500 cities in New Delhi.  People from Dhanbad and Mysore shared their success stories through video conferencing and also kept forth their demands in front of the minister. Venkaiah Naidu launched Guide Book, Idea Book and MSW Manual on the occasion. 

The main objective of Swach Survekshan is not to point out shortcomings but to suggest ways to improve the state of cleanliness in the particular area. During the function, the minister also launched "self assessment tool" for city progress and "Swachh Survekshan-2017 short films" to create awareness on cleanliness.  Speaking on this occasion, Union Urban Development Minister Venkaiah Naidu has said that there is a need to make Swachh Bharat Andolon a Jan Andolon and not a government programme.

Olympic 2016 kick off with opening ceremony in Rio

Rio Olympic Opening Ceremony 2016 kicked off in Rio with a stunning celebration of Brazilian culture. Most of the tight budget for the Rio Olympic ceremony has been spent on a high-tech splurge for the show's video projections.  At one point, the entire of the stadium was transformed into an otherworldly landscape as huge moving sculptures of microbes moved across the floor. 

The stadium became a forest floor and people of the native tribes of Brazil, in traditional dress, performed a choreographed dance with the fibre optic lights to recreate tribal art.  The Parade of nations started at the Opening Ceremony with Greece entering the stadium as per tradition.

Vijay Rupani elected New Chief Minister of Gujarat

Gujarat BJP Legislators elected Vijay Rupani the new Chief Minsiter of the state, while Nitin Patel has been elected as the Deputy CM on 5th August 2016. The meeting of Gujarat BJP legislators was held at State Party headquarter Shree Kamalam in capital Ahmadabad to elect the new Chief Minister. Rocks Types: Igneous, Sedimentary and Metamorphic rocks

Types of Rocks: Earth’s crust is made up of various types of rocks. Any natural mass of mineral matter that makes up the earth’s crust is called a rock. Rocks can be of different colour, size and texture. There are three major types of rocks: igneous rocks, sedimentary rocks and metamorphic rocks.

1. Igneous Rocks: When the molten magma cools, it becomes solid. Rocks thus formed are called igneous rocks. They are also called primary rocks. There are two types of igneous rocks: intrusive rocks and extrusive rocks.
• Intrusive Rocks: When molten lava comes on the earth’s surface, it rapidly cools down and becomes solid. Rocks formed in such a way on the crust are called extrusive igneous rocks. They have a very fine grained structure. For example, basalt. The Deccan plateau is made up of basalt. 
• Extrusive Rocks: Sometimes the molten magma cools down deep inside the earth’s crust. Solid rocks so formed are called intrusive igneous rocks. Since they cool down slowly they form large grains. Granite is an example of such a rock. 
2. Sedimentary Rocks: Rocks roll down, crack, and hit each other and are broken down into small fragments. These smaller particles are called sediments. These sediments are transported and deposited by wind, water, etc. These loose sediments are compressed and hardened to form layers of rocks. These types of rocks are called sedimentary rocks. For example, sandstone is made from grains of sand. 
3. Metamorphic rocks: Igneous and sedimentary rocks can change into metamorphic rocks under great heat and pressure. For example, clay changes into slate and limestone into marble.
